Fishing Tips & Strategies
Increase Your Fishing Level
Higher fishing levels make the catching mini-game easier. Eat food that boosts fishing (like Dish o' The Sea or Fish Stew) when attempting difficult catches.
Use the Right Tackle
Trap Bobber slows the escape rate, Cork Bobber increases the catch bar. For legendary fish, Trap Bobber is usually best.
Check Weather & Time
Many fish only appear in specific weather or times. Rain unlocks Catfish, Eel, and Red Snapper. Use the TV forecast to plan ahead.
Legendary Fish Requirements
Most legendary fish require Fishing Level 10. They can only be caught once per save file (except in the 1.6 extended family quest).
Legendary Fish
The rarest and most difficult fish to catch. Most require Fishing Level 10 and specific conditions. In Stardew Valley 1.6, completing Mr. Qi's Extended Family quest unlocks a second set of legendary fish.
